Redemption: Darkness Falls ~ Ivory Quinn

Alright people. The eagerly-awaited sequel to Obsession: Darkness Falls is now available online!

Here’s the blurb:

Cause you are my invisible strings

You’re the ties that bind me whole

You’re all that keeps me together

You’re the dark matter of my soul

It’s been six long months since Gabriel left and Noelle’s nightmares are swallowing her whole.
In a last ditch attempt to save her sanity, Jax takes her to Cal Henway, the infamous and enigmatic Master of Kink, to see if he can slay her demons. He, in turn, entrusts her care to Master Blue – Dom, loveable rogue and practical joker.
Blue knows the only way to silence her demons is to sate them, but will his journey through the darkest parts of her desires save her, or break her beyond all repair?

Check it out on Goodreads!

A cheeky excerpt:

The loudest silence…the concept played on her mind as she gave up on dinner and washed up her bowl and spoon. She knew about loud silences. Sometimes it felt like everything was screaming inside her head and no-one could quiet it because no-one else could hear it. Closing her eyes, she tried to imagine Gabriel’s voice as he sang. His demons had shredded themselves on his vocal chords, pouring through her soul in unchained deliverance, soaring in harmony with her own darkness. His silences had echoed. They must have cut him even more deeply than her silences cut her, because he had the gift of song to let it out. She was mute.

Her restless eyes fell on the piece of paper again and she frowned. She may not have the voice to sing, but she certainly had the words to speak. Scooping up the pen, she just let the words flow from her in a stream, trying to articulate how she felt. When she was done, she tried to rearrange them into some sort of song format, talking herself through some of the Darkness Falls lyrics to try and get a feel for the layout.

An hour later she had something she was almost happy with and sat back, feeling strangely emotional. She hadn’t realised how hard it would be to put it down on paper. She wrote the word “Silence” at the top of the page and read it through one last time.

And my demons rolled beneath my skin

Existing in a soundless scream

And it’s the loudest silence…

The loudest silence…

And it’s the loudest echoing silence

That hurts the most.

I drown in darkness uncontained

I am Jezebel, the red, the rage

Don’t let me scream in silence.

I’m locked in silence.

Don’t let me cry out in silence…

It hurts the most.

If in silence I must, broken, lie

Be not my heart, nor lover mine

For my darkness will drown you

My demons tear you

And the silence that hurts the most

Destroys us both

Yes…that was how it felt. And the more she stared at the ugly words, the more she realised how true they were. Her darkness would drown Jax. Her demons would tear at him because she couldn’t contain them, and the screaming silences in her head would destroy them both in the end. She was sure of it. Staying here was no good for either of them. Gabriel was right. Sometimes love just isn’t enough to make everything work.

Oh, and there’s a surprise for my fans at the end, so read to the very final page!

Who is Ivory Quinn?

Ivory Quinn is an author of indeterminate youth, living in a land where the sun rarely shines but the mist makes everything magical. She likes men and books, but doesn’t think either makes a great sandwich filling. Unmarried and living with other creative types, she has a healthy relationship with her bed. She wishes that writing was her day job, but sadly has a large percentage of non-writing time, made bearable only by classic rock and lots of caffeinated things. Her favourite things are fan mail, cake and men in kilts. She does not see these things as mutually exclusive.

Threads

I’m writing this in my attic. Well, our attic, but my bit of it. Here in the new flat, there’s juuuust enough space to stand up unless you’re a midget like Rivka in which case you can stand normally with no problems. The roof slopes on both sides with a little sash window in the front side looking out over the High Street. Oh yes, we live in the centre of things. It is quite busy at the moment because it’s tourist season in the Highlands and our little metropolis is a perfect stopping off point for coach parties on day trips or on their way north. It’s quaint. It has an ancient priory to poke around in. It also has a massive car park perfect for coaches.

Yesterday was sunshine and showers, until it went really dark and lammed it down in the middle of the afternoon. The kind of dark from Independence Day or the Fifth Element, where it’s bright and then something smoothly rolls over the sun and fills you with dread. Thunder! Lightning! Zero visibility! Children were shrieking about in the street and a lot of tourists dressed for summer gt drenched. I watched it all from the window with a cup of tea.

Rivka came home saying town was chaos with flash floods and no way of seeing out the windscreen as the rain was so heavy. We battened down the hatches and watched The Breakfast Club, which she had never seen and then afterwards deemed merely “OK”. Learn from my mistake: never move in with someone who has such different opinions. OK????? OK?????? It’s one of the best films to come out of the eighties and that includes Cocktail, Top Gun, The Lost Boys and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Oh, and of course Labyrinth.

Regardless, we had a cosy night in. Today looks like more rain given the huge black cloud hanging around up there. Friday’s blog will be all about Ivory Quinn, since her book Redemption comes out on Saturday and I signed up to do pre-release promo. She’s getting ready for it to explode when it comes out as she has a lot of fans who are dying to know what happens. From some of the hints Ivory has been dropping, so am I!

Whoops, I just got sucked into the Internet.

I’m listening to The Night Circus on audiobook at the moment and I need my hands free for hemming. The wedding preparations have begun! I couldn’t sleep last night because I was thinking about epic embroidery. Visions of sugarplums danced in my head! Sort of. But it will all be very exciting if I pull my finger out and get it done. That means action stations. Ahahaha. Someone had better remind me to log in on Friday for Ivory’s book promo for I fear I will be up to my eyeballs in thread and tracing paper.

I am very excited by this planning stage, I tell you. Coffee will probably help with that.

Redemption: Darkness Falls ~ Cover reveal!

Now, some of you may know my friend Rivka (I talk about her often enough). She’s a writer but she also takes on editing for other people. A while back, she edited a book called Obsession: Darkness Falls, which is about a woman called Noelle who gets into a very intense relationship with the lead singer of mysterious rock group Darkness Falls. It’s a bit of a tough read because this singer – Gabriel – is not a very likeable person: he’s selfish and petulant and at times a bit sociopathic. He’s a great character and it helps make the book very strong, but I wouldn’t want any of my friends going out with him. I read it all in one lump because I couldn’t put it down, if that’s any kind of recommendation, but golly it took it out of me. I like books that make me think and question and get me invested. This one does. And it takes full advantage. I felt like I’d done six rounds with Mike Tyson when I was done.

The sequel to Obsession is out next month, and now I have a blog I thought I’d get in on the pre-release hype. So, without further ado, I give you Redemption: Darkness Falls by Ivory Quinn. (with a MASSIVE spoiler in the synopsis)

REDEMPTION: DARKNESS FALLS

‘Cause you are my invisible strings

You’re the ties that bind me whole

You’re all that keeps me together

You’re the dark matter of my soul

It’s been six long months since Gabriel died and Noelle’s nightmares are swallowing her whole.

In a last ditch attempt to save her sanity, Jax takes her to Cal Henway, the infamous and enigmatic Master of Kink, to see if he can slay her demons. He, in turn, entrusts her care to Master Blue – Dom, loveable rogue and practical joker.

Blue knows the only way to silence her demons is to sate them, but will their journey through the darkest parts of her desires save her, or break her beyond all repair?

Sorry about the major spoiler; I didn’t write it.

This is also meant to be the cover reveal, so I thought I’d save that for last…

Ooh, saucy!

Redemption: Darkness Falls ~ Ivory Quinn

I’m doubly excited for this release because the fan group had a competition to write our first chapter for Redemption, the way we thought it could be, and mine won! So my chapter will be published in the back of Redemption for everyone to read as well. So really this is all about me…

Redemption: Darkness Falls is released on 2nd August 2013

Book 1 ~ Obsession: Darkness Falls is available now here in the US and here in the UK

A quick catch-up

Alright, it’s new blog post day but it’s been a busy few days and so I thought I’d give you an update on what I’ve been up to instead of a massive ramble.

I have been:

-trying to avoid scratching my scabs from my hideous cuts (see back a couple of entries) but it’s so difficult! They’re huge and thick like a lava flow and they ain’t going away any time soon. The one on my knee is ridiculous!

-writing flash fiction for Scrolls

-writing poems for The Opening Line

-writing fanfiction for a competition (and then winning) run by a lady called Ivory Quinn and her insanely enthusiastic fan group. Ivory wrote a book called Obsession: Darkness Falls (first half of a two book set) which is very dark and really twisted. It’s a book I’m glad I read but I had to stop and question a lot of things which is sort of the point. Anyway, there was a comp to write our own chapter 1 of the second book (Redemption) which is coming out in August and I won. So my chapter will be printed at the back of the book! (Ivory says none of the entries actually got it right so it’ll be interesting to see how they compare)

-watching Community again from the beginning. I’m about four episodes into season 2 and right back in the Greendale zone. Alison Brie is my new style icon.

-watching The Fall on the BBC. My goodness. Next week is the final episode and it’s all gone a bit haywire. There’s a man strangling women in their own homes because he stalks them and breaks in, and the audience knows who the killer is because we see him going about his daily life as well. It’s set in Belfast so there’s a lot of politics and police corruption and gang-drug stuff going on too, which is getting in the way of the serial murder investigation. Gillian Anderson plays the senior investigating officer and she plays it cold and hard. I wouldn’t be surprised to find she’d killed a few people in her time.

It’s very intense. I was alone in the house last night watching it and doing my ironing and afterwards I was a bit jumpy. I was washing up and thought I heard something in the hall and nearly freaked right out. I checked all the windows before I went to bed. Catch up on the iPlayer if you can!

-walking about at a book fair, looking at (and buying…) delicious old books. I bought two. One of them has yet more cross-stitch patterns in it. I know – I have more than enough already. But it was so old! And useful! If I ever become a hoarder it’ll be for old craft books and supplies.

-NOT watching Game of Thrones. I don’t have Sky TV so I haven’t been watching it (I have read the books) but I gather something important happened this week given the way the Internet has exploded…

I’ll try and write a real entry for Friday. And maybe some more of the books I’m meant to be writing.
